Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED
  • 0-2 years of experience in construction testing/inspections of soil, concrete, masonry, and/or asphalt materials
  • Effective communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing) using the English language
  • Ability to complete data entry into multiple software applicatioYou have a High school diploma/GED
  • You have 0-2 years of experience in construction testing/inspections of soil, concrete, masonry, and/or asphalt materials
  • You have effective communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing) using the English language
  • You are able to complete data entry into multiple software applications on a smart device
  • You have American Concrete Institute (ACI): Field Testing Grade I, International Code Council (ICC) in the areas of construction materials, Post Tensioning Institute (PTI), DOT Certifications in the fields of Aggregate, Conventional Density, Asphalt, and Concrete and/or other certifications as necessary, a plus
  • Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
  • You are willing and able to perform the physical demands of this position using Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment such as:
  • Working outdoors the majority of the time in varying weather conditions
  • Walking over rough and uneven terrain
  • Standing up to 8 hours a day, occasionally 12 hours
  • Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs, (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
  • Maneuver field equipment safely, such as a loaded wheelbarrow, on uneven ground and around active construction sites
  • Traveling overnight for out-of-town assignments as necessary
  • Flexibility to work outside of normal business hoursns on a smart device

Responsibilities

  • As a Construction Materials Engineering Technician, you will make a difference! The field testing and observations of construction materials you perform each day help ensure compliance with industry standards and project specifications. You will see construction projects from beginning to end, documenting the successful placement and use of soil, concrete, rebar, asphalt, aggregate, and other building materials. It is our job to make sure it is "built right", and at S&ME we take that responsibility very seriously. Join us and become part of the team that makes construction a success.
  • Reviewing plans and specifications in preparation for field observations on construction sites
  • Documenting field activities, observations, and testing results on projects
  • Daily use of Metafield®, and/or other field and laboratory information management system
  • Calibrating field and laboratory equipment to industry codes and standards
  • Perform Special Inspection observations per the International Building Code (IBC)
  • Communicating daily with management staff, general contractors, and clients
