Requirements

  • Advanced University degree in Business Administration, Economy, Strategy, International Development, International Relations, or other field relevant to international development assistance, or First University Degree with additional years of related work experience and/or trainings/courses.
  • 2 or more years of professional experience related to implementation of sustainability in supply chains, related policies, strategies or plans;
  • Has gained experience in assisting with the review/design of environmental strategies;
  • Has supported policy discussions and decisions, on or related to SC Sustainability.
  • Some knowledge of key national and regional contexts and issues is desirable;
  • Previous experience working in WFP, International Organisations and/ or UN organisation desirable
  • Fluency (level C) in English language. Intermediate knowledge (level B) of a second language French, Spanish, and/or Italian is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support within assigned regions, following up on the design and rollout of regional environmental strategies, and support the implementation of supply chain sustainability projects, plans and processes, ensuring alignment with wider programme policies and guidance while gaining and then imbuing a systems-thinking approach. Ensure ESG and resilience considerations are embedded in CSPs for the assigned regions. Identify and establish relationship with key internal and external stakeholders who are owner of data and analyses in various areas of interest such as environmental sustainability, climate change, supply chain routes and crop patters. Build productive partnerships and collaborate to share knowledge and resources; build capacity; ensure an integrated supply chain approach to food assistance and cross-functional operational alignment; She/he will have regular contacts with the MSD and programme technical units with a ESG mandate, other units in SC, RB and CO colleagues.
  • Conduct in depth research on trends and solutions to enhance supply chain sustainability, from the humanitarian and development fields, academia and private sector, and how these can be applied to WFP operations; produce clear and concise analysis documents outlining the conclusions of the research and proposed way forward for solutions’ implementation; perform in-depth market analysis and supply chain network mapping to inform the selection of an appropriate operation modalities to improve supply chain sustainability/resilience performance; Analyse regional/country context, to proactively mitigate and/or address dynamic supply chain challenges and obtain operational optimization. Plan and manage implementation of innovative supply chain operations, initiatives and services in the sustainability and resilience areas, in close cooperation with key supply chain stakeholders. Assist with the development and management of technical discussions with sustainability partners for collaborative work leading to improved SSC. Support alignment of requirements with Institutional donors. Coordinate/Support the development, update and implementation of specific and division/organization-wide policies, guidelines, plans and procedures, in line with the global WFP SC strategy and regional/functional strategies, to support sustainability and resilience, and to achieve operational cost efficiency, agility, reliability, quality. Support the capacity strengthening of WFP staff, partners and national government to recognize and address SSC needs, e.g. through project management support of learning and development initiatives in the region. Support communication and knowledge management initiatives. Provide guidance to support staff, acting as a point of referral and assisting them with analysis and queries related to SSC. Support the work of other thematic areas in SCDL-E when required; perform other related duties, as required.
