Requirements

  • You will have several years’ experience working in corporate finance or a closely-related discipline, advisory or in-house. A professional accounting qualification is not a requirement for this role. Your background would ideally include experience in:
  • Corporate finance or related areas (such as working on financial transactions; investments; mergers and acquisitions; or financial modelling)
  • Project leadership or management
  • Financial return or corporate valuation analysis
  • Providing written advice and recommendations at a board level
  • Creating and delivering presentations
  • Partnering with stakeholders or clients to challenge and test assumptions

Responsibilities

  • Group planning
  • Maintaining and analysing the long-term corporate modelling across the BBC’s public and commercial activities
  • Advising on longer term strategic financial priorities and management of financial risk, providing effective financial advice to senior management (working closely with Group Finance, Tax and Treasury colleagues)
  • Supporting the interactions with Group Strategy, Businesses, Divisions and Senior Leadership in understanding the implications of financial transactions and activity on Group performance in the long-term strategic plan regarding Group P&L performance
  • Preparing and presenting insightful analysis as the foundation for strategic decision-making, resource allocation and performance management
  • Corporate finance advice
  • Providing corporate finance expertise across the BBC Group on the assessment, structuring and negotiation of financial transactions, investments and partnerships and managing external relationships (including updating the BBC’s credit stakeholders on the BBC’s covenant)
  • Referencing and championing external and BBC-wide knowledge of best practice in corporate finance financial analysis, ways of working or driving commercial performance (including benchmarking analysis, industry monitoring and liaising with external advisers when required)
  • Acting as a critical adviser to appraise, challenge and resolve key business initiatives and issues
  • Performance
  • Analysing and reviewing financial performance, especially drivers, trends, and the competitive environment, to enhance understanding thereof on the part of management, the BBC Board, regulators and external advisers
  • Influencing BBC decision-makers in the shareholder oversight of the BBC’s commercial subsidiaries and solving complex pan-BBC challenges
  • Providing assurance and delivering recommendations and solutions, based on high quality, concise and sound financial and strategic analysis
  • Special projects
  • Working with stakeholders across the Group to participate in and manage special projects. The nature of these projects is varied but will typically include financial modelling and the ability to provide a range of scenarios
  • Engaging with external advisory partners, government bodies and financial institutions
  • Managing consultants to ensure they can perform any analysis required as well as guiding and shaping the output they provide
  • Building collaborative relationships across the BBC’s Finance teams, public service divisions, Group functions and commercial subsidiaries
  • Overseeing the triannual valuation process with the BBC’s defined benefit Pension Scheme
