  • Essential:

  • HNC/HND in an engineering discipline
  • Experience
  • Production of Signalling Design deliverables at a principle and system level on time and to budget
  • Verification of design deliverables to time and budget
  • Engineering interfaces with other disciplines, i.e. Installation, Test, Control Systems, Telecommunications, Civil Engineering, Electrification and Power, Permanent Way
  • Operational risk assessments
  • Management of configuration and change control.
  • Applying Network Rail Signalling and Railway Group Standards
  • Verification of Specifications, Signalling Scheme Plans, Location Area Plans, System Architecture
  • Experience in SSI or Smartlock data Design and Verification
  • Desirable:
  • Valid PTS (Personal Track Safety) Certificate
  • Membership of the IRSE (Institute of Railway Signalling Engineers)
  • Qualifications
  • BSc or BEng degree level education in an engineering discipline
  • 1.1.145 Signalling Design Manager licence
  • 1.1.550 IRSE Signalling Principles Designer

  • Work package management including project programmes.
  • Leading small teams and design packages

  • Tendering signalling design projects.

Responsibilities

  • Alstom Design Verifiers are responsible for the following:
  • Production, Verification and Validation of safety related Signalling design deliverables at a principle and system level in accordance with project programme, budgetary and technical requirements
  • Production, Verification and Validation of safety related Signalling design deliverables at a principle and system level in accordance with appropriate railway standards, technical constraints, health and safety legislation, Alstom company procedures, CDM Regulations, and CSM procedures
  • Production, Verification and Validation of generic design solutions to meet Signalling requirements
  • Identify, capture and validate Signalling requirements
  • Support the Responsible Engineer with the identification of operational risks, construction risk, maintenance risk and system risk within design
  • Verify and Validate Signalling Design deliverables against all safety requirements
  • Identify best practice signalling processes as part of a continual improvement plan to increase efficiency and minimize cost of non-quality and technical / delivery risk
  • Leading small design teams and the production of design packages
  • Taking reasonable care for the health and safety of yourself and other persons who may be affected by your acts or omissions at work
  • Co-operating as far as is reasonably practicable, with any statutory requirement placed on the company. Ensure that you do not intentionally or recklessly interfere with or misuse anything provided in the interest of safety or welfare
  • Identifying and communicating (to the Alstom Design Management team) any perceived shortcomings in Health and Safety arrangements, situations or processes that are considered to be serious or which may present dangers to yourself or others
  • Working on safety critical or safety related activities only where this complies with relevant competence or authority to work or implementing and documenting a robust mentorship plan
  • Maintaining competencies and ensuring that IRSE Licence and Authority to Work are accurate and up to date
  • Mentor, coach and train other Designers including IRSE assessments when required to support the businesses sustainability plan
