Requirements

  • The role is suitable for a candidate with an engineering background, with strong understanding and exposure to energy modelling either through previous placement experience and/or academic projects. This opportunity will allow you to work alongside our senior team members in the design of low carbon building service solutions and help building your career as energy consultant.

  • The role is suitable for someone with strong engineering background and interest. We would welcome applications from graduates who have studied the following degrees:
  • Building Services/MEP Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Physics
  • Engineering Design
  • Engineering Science
  • Environmental Engineering.
  • To be successful in this role, you will need to possess:
  • Engineering Degree (requirement) preferably master’s in building service engineering/ Mechanical Engineering or relevant sustainability course (CIBSE, IMECH, IET, etc.)
  • High interest in thermal modelling and building performance optimisation
  • Enthusiasm about site-visits and energy audits
  • Basic knowhow of building energy, heating and ventilation systems
  • Elementary understanding to HVAC controls, metering and integrated systems design
  • Basic understanding of coding and machine learning software and parametric modelling
  • Ability to work with engineers from all disciplines and other professionals to optimise and develop bespoke, ‘value for money’ and innovative designs
  • Understanding of Health and Safety within the workplace and on-site.

Responsibilities

  • Our team of sustainability experts is responsible for some of the UK’s highest-rated sustainable buildings, such as 2 Redman Place achieving a BREEAM Outstanding score of 94%, where rainwater harvesting saves the equivalent of four and a half Olympic swimming pools of water each year. At One Angel Square, the Co-operative headquarters in Manchester we achieved the highest ever BREEAM Outstanding score in the UK (95.1%) at the time of certification.
  • Buro Happold are ahead of the competition when it comes to NABERS UK and advance operational energy modelling. We currently have two projects underway classed as ‘Pioneer projects’ for Design for Performance these are 4 Angel Square and Statesman House. We are also undertaking advance modelling for an 800,000 sqft speculative lab in Canary Wharf, the Earnshaw building and Worship Square. Our Post occupancy evaluation and soft-landing team are involved with University College of London delivering POE (Post Occupancy Evaluation) for various buildings and decarbonisations plans.
  • We are also active members of UK Green Building Council and World Green Building Council including advisory groups on Delivering Social Value, Circular Economy and Advancing Net Zero Renewables and Offsetting. Many staff globally are members of boards, organisations, and/or visiting lecturers at universities.
