- Working as part of the Business and Innovation Directorate, this graduate opportunity will play a key role in delivering UKRI-STFC’s Research and Innovation Campus and Cluster strategies.
- The Graduate Cluster Development Officer will join a well-established team that is developing innovation clusters in high-growth economic sectors such as Energy Tech. You will interact with organisations across Harwell Campus, including outstanding facilities, ground breaking research institutes, centres and businesses to drive growth of clusters.
- You will support the Energy Tech Cluster Development Manager deliver dynamic projects and schemes that encourage collaboration and engagement between cluster organisations, to help strengthen connections, exchange ideas and stimulate development of new technologies or products in businesses.
- Depending on your strengths and interests, there are also opportunities within this role to work with a diverse group people, including with teams that support innovation and impact, business development and early-stage business incubation. These wider opportunities will help to develop knowledge and experience, growth within the role, and take your career in your chosen direction.
- The Harwell Energy Tech Cluster builds on the long history of energy-related innovation on the site. It is focussed on topics such as net zero, battery research, energy production, energy storage, energy conversion, energy efficiency, zero carbon fuels and catalysis, exploiting the interdisciplinary strengths of the Harwell Campus and its networks.
- Harwell facilities such as Diamond, ISIS, Central Laser Facility and the Catalysis hub at the Research Complex are used extensively for energy-related research and Harwell’s energy community and collaborations extend to over 80 organisations on site, 30 universities and a wider industry network across the UK.
- The driving objective is to exploit Harwell’s unique combination of facilities and highly skilled people to boost growth and innovation in the energy field.

Responsibilities
- Working with the Energy Tech Cluster Development Manager to help plan and deliver cluster-focussed meetings, events, conferences and networking activities – both virtual and face-to-face – supporting / leading on the organisation, delivery and associated logistics, as appropriate.
- Supporting the delivery of key Energy Tech cluster development activities, including enquiries from businesses regarding sources of relevant knowledge, support, finance and other resources. For example the Cross Cluster Proof of Concept Programme
- Gathering, understanding and maintaining an awareness of the diverse Campus and Energy Tech Cluster community and the activities of other STFC groups, including the Business Development and Innovation and Impact teams, to support joint working.
- Collecting and analysing data on Energy Tech Campus and Cluster activities to help evidence their impact.
- Contributing to and/or leading on the development of clear and concise case studies and policy briefings for a range of audiences.
- Building and maintaining good working relationships with organisations on Harwell Campus and key stakeholders across the research and innovation system. Including attending key Energy Tech Campus and Cluster-focused events to help facilitate interactions between attendees e.g. Harwell Climate Tech Festival, Harwell Connect Events, NxtGen Events, etc.
