Responsibilities

  • Understand and apply patient-level registration, update demographic information, and register discharged newborn.
  • Assist with training and education of new team members.
  • Assign and distribute work among Birth Registrars.
  • Assist HIM Management team with the quality assurance audits when needed.
  • Acts as Notary Public witnessing signatures and certifying legal documents.
  • Prepare, abstracts, and verifies birth log of the mother and newborn information from the medical record.
  • Review Comprehensive Health Records for the background history of the parent/legal guardian and infant to complete Birth Certificate Questionnaire (BCQ).
  • Complete telephone interview with parent(s)/legal guardian(s) in timely and efficient manner; coordinate availability of Orlando Health’s Foreign Language interpreters for parent(s)/legal guardian(s) translation.
  • Visit parents with completed birth certificate forms and informational packets for parents to review and sign.
  • Confirm with non-legally married parents/legal guardians, the Acknowledgement of Paternity (AOP) forms have proper signatures and proper dates.
  • Ensure birth information for the legal birth certificate are entered into the State of Florida’s Electronic Vital Registry System and are precise and complete.
  • Complete all birth certificates and adjoining paperwork in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Review birth certificates against paternity paperwork, when applied, to assure diligence.
  • Review and proofreads birth certificate prior to sending them out to state registrar within the five-day deadline.
  • Assist parent(s) completing the process for non-viable certificate.
  • Update baby’s name given by parent(s)/legal guardian(s) in the Comprehensive Health Record within timely manner.
  • Screen patients for the Healthy Start Program.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
  • Maintains knowledge of key operational data systems and organizational workflows.
  • Communicates cooperatively and constructively with physicians, patients, guests, and all other members of the healthcare team demonstrating excellent interpersonal, oral, written, and organizational skills.
  • Possess excellent customer service skills.
  • Maintain positive behaviors and adapt to a changing environment.
  • Maintains knowledge of clerical and demographic information in order to reason and solve problems.
