Requirements

  • Law degree or equivalent. (SQE candidates are welcome to apply. However, this is a fixed term position as advertised, without any possibility of an NQ role). Candidates without a law degree with strong knowledge and experience of governance and company secretarial requirements are encouraged to apply as the role requirements could be flexible.
  • Strong knowledge of the Companies Act 2006 and contract law. Knowledge of the system of regulation of Royal Charter bodies and charities would be useful. Some understanding of copyright law and licensing models would also be useful.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including excellent grammar and high levels of attention to detail in all areas.
  • Ability to work independently and in particular to write and edit to deadline without supervision.
  • Ability to work to inflexible governance deadlines and to deal with changing and multiple priorities and remain calm under pressure.
  • Experience working with Boards, Trustees, Executive teams and members.
  • Ability to influence and persuade people at all levels and build and manage relationships with ease, tact and diplomacy.
  • Ability to identify confidential and politically sensitive issues and to deal with them appropriately.
  • Flexibility and adaptability – our governance transition project will change its requirements from the legal and governance team during the contract term.
  • Proven IT skills in MS Office and Microsoft Team

Responsibilities

  • supporting delivery of legal and governance work within RPS, mainly in the fields of corporate, governance and commercial contracts
  • helping to manage commercial contract management as well as governance work
  • responding to queries from a range of stakeholders
  • ensuring that our constitutional documents are understood and followed, kept up to date, enacted and reflect best practice
  • attending the office in London once a week and additionally as required to attend governance meetings or as may be required to complete tasks
