Requirements

  • Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental, Civil, Coastal or Chemical Engineering or related discipline. 0 years. Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands. Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with water resources issues related to floodplain modeling and management, hydraulic modeling, and in-stream and civil design. Data management and analysis skills using standard platforms. Some familiarity with 1D/2D HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, and ArcGIS software, and design platforms such as AutoCAD, preferred.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills desired
  • Additional Virginia locations may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Review LOMR case requests for both riverine and coastal sources to determine if they meet all FEMA criteria justifying a change to published flood hazard data
  • Review hydrologic and hydraulic models for technical accuracy
  • Verify compliance with FEMA National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) standards and FEMA Guidelines and Specifications
  • Preparation of all appropriate FEMA documentation and correspondence
  • Verbal and written communication skills will be utilized on a daily basis to interact directly with the client (FEMA) and LOMR requesters
  • Resolution of floodplain mapping issues related to LOMRs
  • Oversight and guidance of third party LOMR preparations
