Responsibilities

  • Provide direct support to Walmart Unemployment Services and stores by preparing evidence and the witness with pertinent information, including but not limited to, case details, previous submitted documentation, hearing notice with instructions, specific evidentiary exhibits to be submitted, hearing etiquette and process, and general expectations for the appeal’s process.
  • Provide continuous improvement recommendations for initial claims process and hearing support functions based on learnings and insights.
  • Identify the issues to be decided at the hearing.
  • Review and analyze state statutory guidance for misconduct to prepare appeal packet that demonstrates final incident meets the definition of misconduct as outlined by the state.
  • Prepare and submit relevant documentation central to the appeal to the state utilizing each state guidelines for submission of first level appeals.
  • Identify and label relevant portions of documentation.
  • Testify in unemployment hearings from business records when store level witness is unavailable.
  • Review and analyze hearing decisions for cases worked by hearings support team to collect data to improve the hearing process.
  • Exhaust employer's appeal rights by appealing unfavorable hearing decisions. (2nd level Appeals)
  • Manage team's workflow by sorting initial decisions and assigning appeals that require action from the employer.
  • Operate as SME regarding statutory misconduct in each state to assist with appeal questions by the team.
  • Create guidance on how to proceed with insufficiency cases to ensure that employer is adhering to the guidelines of the Unemployment Insurance Integrity Act and minimizing penalties to the employer.
  • Research and compile legislative changes that impact the appeals process.
