Requirements

  • Mandatory Qualifications
  • Medical Laboratory Professionals' Association of Ontario (MLPAO) and/or Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) certificate
  • Experience with laboratory instrumentation an asset
  • Phlebotomy experience and asset
  • Personal attributes - self-starter who has the ability to work well with frequent interruptions in a fast-paced medical setting. Highly developed organization skills and the ability to multitask.
  • Demonstrates excellent customer relations skills and ability to work in a team based, multi-skilled service in accordance with the Hospitals Mission Statement.
  • Experience with a laboratory information system to include accurate and efficient data entry skills. Other computer experience, i.e. Microsoft Office an asset.
  • Committed to professional continuing education.
  • Microbiology Specimen Processing experience an asset
  • Safety (patient, worker & workplace) is a BCHS Corporate Priority. The successful applicant will demonstrate good stewardship in the identification, reporting and mitigation of unsafe acts or conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Provides assistance to the Medical Technologists as required.
  • Participates in the training of staff and students.
  • Perform all duties within current and relevant professional, legal and ethical standards and scope of this position.
  • Communicate professionally with all clients.
  • Ensure safe, effective and efficient collection of appropriate patient samples
  • Ensure the provision of timely, accurate and precise results to all user groups.
  • Perform routine medical laboratory procedures, as workload and needs dictate, according to established methods and procedures.
  • Participate in special projects and other duties as assigned.

The Brant Community Healthcare System (BCHS) in Brantford and Paris Ontario, is a leading community health care organization with a total of 262 beds and more than 2,300 staff, physicians and volunteers providing support, programs and services to over 120,000 residents in our community. In 1999, The Willett Hospital in Paris and the Brantford General Hospital became the first two partners in the BCHS. The Brantford General Hospital is a regional acute health centre and the Willett site provides urgent care and ambulatory services for those in need.
