Requirements

  • Post-secondary diploma required; degree or graduate degree in a field related to FES research is an asset
  • Recognized training and/or experience in science communication, preferably through the Energy Explorers program, is required
  • Training that specifically addresses the translation of scientific content into publicly consumable materials
  • Demonstrated video and content production skills are required
  • Familiarity with the FES research program is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Video Production – 40%
  • Supports the Multimedia Content Producer in creation of video content promoting FES research and researchers to a variety of audiences including government, industry, classrooms, and the general public.
  • Attends video and photo shoots, recording high quality images, video, and audio of research related content in labs, at events, at field sites, and in other locations as required.
  • Edits and post-produces draft videos to be reviewed for publication on the FES YouTube Channel, including monthly Energy Talks with the Edmonton Public Library, Ask an Energy Expert, and other series as assigned.
  • Creates compelling and compatible animations appropriate for use in FES videos.
  • Social Media Content – 30%
  • Under the guidance of the Research Communications Coordinator, generates relevant, compelling, appropriate and accurate content for publication on social media channels including X, Facebook, and Instagram.
  • Proposes and creates social media content related to FES research, including text and supporting visuals appropriate to multiple platforms.
  • Upon approval from the Research Communications Coordinator, schedules social media posts in compliance with the FES social media calendar using the management platform Metricool.
  • Monitors FES social media to respond to informational requests and identify potential issues to be addressed by the Research Communications Coordinator and/or the Assistant Director.
  • Attends FES events to provide on-site social media support, such as live video and images from trade shows, research site visits, and/or public events.
  • Outreach and Education Support – 30%
  • Provides organizational and logistical support for FES outreach and educational activities including lab tours, class visits, and special events, and supports the operation of the Energy Explorers training program.
  • Assists the Outreach and Engagement lead in identifying and inviting researcher personnel to participate in outreach and educational activities, and serves as the point of contact in facilitating their involvement.
  • Attends outreach and education events as assigned to provide logistical support, such as escorting student groups during lab tours, assisting with set up and take down before and after events, and travelling to schools and other external locations to support researcher visits to classrooms.
  • Provides organizational support for the Energy Explorers training program, including communication with potential and confirmed participants, booking spaces, and attending events.
