Requirements

  • PhD. Physics related to Photonics / Optics
  • BSc/MSc in Physics, Photonics, Electronic Engineering or related fields.
  • At least six months working in optical/electronic laboratory or equivalent is desirable.
  • Experience in assembly and optimisation of optical setups on an optical bench (especially laser-based setups).
  • Design, development and build of opto-mechanical and electro-optic rigs, jigs and test fixtures.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, advanced Excel or similar tools for scientific data analysis.
  • Able to use test and measurement equipment in an electro-optic and opto-mechanical environment, including:
  • PC based instruments and associated software;
  • Oscilloscopes;
  • Bare imaging cameras, manual focussing lenses and associated frame capture software;

Responsibilities

  • Detailed characterisation of cutting-edge optical and optoelectronic components including laser diodes, spatial light modulators (SLMs) and bespoke optical elements.
  • Design of experimental setups and experimental procedures for characterisation of components and optical systems.
  • Analysis of data collected and thorough and precise reporting of results and conclusions.
  • Advance the state-of-the-art of digital holographic displays and HUDs.
