Responsibilities

  • - We are looking for a quality lab technician to cover a leave of an employee for a 6 month contract. There are two openings: 1 to cover 1st shift and be flexible to cover 2nd shift (5:30am start time), and 1 on 2nd shift (2pm start time) and be flexible to cover 3rd as needed. If they cover 3rd, also need to be comfortable with covering part of 1st shift. These shifts are 10 hours and candidates can expect to work 45-55 hours a week.
  • - They will train on 1st shift for the first few weeks (8am start time for training).
  • - They may be asked to cover different shifts depending on coverage. This flexibility is NON NEGOTIABLE. There will be coverage on weekends as needed - the manager will communicate ahead of time when they will be scheduled to work on the weekends.
  • - During training, will be required to come in earlier and/or later to train with a permanent employee and gain exposure across all three shifts.
  • - Perform wet chemistry lab analysis on raw materials, in-process, and finished products including but not limited to pH, viscosity, specific gravity, physical properties (color, odor, appearance), and IR Spectroscopy and FTIR.
  • - Perform micro testing/swabbing.
  • - Check all incoming raw materials including chemicals, bottles, and labels.
  • - Perform line audits to ensure that filling and compounding operations meet customer requirements.
  • - Write logs and reports of all findings in Microsoft Excel and other data management systems.
  • - Send daily emails to the Lab Manager and Quality Director to update on findings from the shift.
  • - Interact with the corporate team in San Francisco to discuss any issues that may arise.
  • - Prepare shift change notes and document all testing and quality metrics during the shift.
  • - Document department results and KPIs during the shift as needed.
  • - Work in Excel and SAP to document quality results.
  • - Ensure product manuals are complete, accurate, and distributed to contract manufacturers (CM) on a timely basis.
  • - Respond in a timely manner to CM requests for specification and part number information and clarification.
  • - Research and resolve CM and in-house quality documentation concerns and needs.
  • - Conduct pH, viscosity, COA, specific gravity, packaging functional testing, and other quality tests on submitted cases of finished products from CMs and in-house manufacturing.
  • - Keep an orderly and organized lab, ensuring all laboratory testing equipment is properly maintained and calibrated as needed.
  • - Maintain an accurate and organized inventory of laboratory supplies and communicate lab supply needs to the QA manager before running out.
  • - Initiate QA variance documentation in a timely fashion as needed.
  • - Create Excel data analysis spreadsheet reports based on laboratory testing as needed.
  • - Compile and organize data into presentational formats as needed.
  • - Maintain accurate laboratory test result records.
  • - Work closely with the quality specialist in processing supplier-related NCRs as needed.
  • - Work closely with the QA manager and other quality technicians in delineating daily work responsibilities.
  • - Act as backup to the quality lab manager in his absence.
  • - Participate in quality and process improvement initiatives.
  • - Recommend process and quality improvement opportunities as they are identified.
  • - Perform other duties as assigned.
