Responsibilities

  • The Recreation Worker plans, develops, and runs a variety of meaningful recreation and leisure pursuits which promotes wellbeing, purpose, creativity, a sense of community, lifelong learning, and fun.
  • The Recreation Worker facilitates planned and spontaneous opportunities to support the maintenance and development of resident skills and knowledge as well as the development of relationships and personal connections.
  • Assists in development, planning and implementing daily recreation and leisure activities, both in the home and in the community, using a collection of holistic resident information and choices, and in a manner that reflects AgeCare’s philosophy and approach to resident programming.
  • Assists in creating and maintaining engaging spaces/environments in the home that support meaningful resident activity and participation.
  • Develops and maintains good communications with residents and their families, friends, as well as volunteers, community groups and agencies.
  • Observes, reports and documents as required, any changes in the resident’s ability to participate in activities, updating plan of care as appropriate.
  • Supports all departments in their efforts to foster resident engagement in meaningful ways.
  • Models the way, leading programs in a manner that supports and maximizes residents’ skills and abilities.
  • Participates in the on-going evaluation of the recreation program and related quality improvement processes.
