What type of surgery will I be involved with as a Registered Nurse at Westmorland General Hospital?
You will primarily be involved with Total Hip and Knee Replacement surgery, Breast surgery, and Urology.
Are there opportunities for newly qualified nurses?
Yes, newly qualified Band 5 nurses are welcomed to apply, and full support for Preceptorship will be provided.
What shifts will I be required to work?
The position involves a variety of shifts to work both days and nights, 7 days a week.
What is the expected competency from a Band 5 nurse in this role?
As a Band 5 nurse, you will be responsible for supporting patients from admission through to discharge while managing patient care proactively.

Is there a probationary period for new staff?
Yes, anyone newly appointed to the trust will be subject to the completion of a satisfactory 6-month probationary period.

The multidisciplinary team works together to ensure patients are discharged safely back to the community following orthopaedic surgery.

Westmorland General Hospital provides a range of General Hospital services, along with an Urgent Treatment Centre for non-life-threatening conditions.
Will I be required to work in both wards?
Yes, you will be required to work on both the elective surgery ward (Ward 7) and the rehabilitation ward (Ward 6) with full support available on both wards.
