Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited nursing education program.
  • Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
  • If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)
  • Knowledge of verbal de-escalation techniques required.
  • Working Knowledge of Psychotropic medications required.
  • Experience in AMH assessment tools including but not limited to the Mental Status examination.
  • Experience in various risk assessments i.e. Suicide risk, Homicidal risk, violent risk.
  • 6 months of Addictions and Mental health experience within the last 3 years.
  • New grads who have completed a final preceptorship in an Addiction and Mental Health site may be considered.
  • This position has been identified and is anticipated to transition to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024.

  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being.
  • In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families.
  • You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance.
  • You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
  • Your responsibilities include delivering targeted interventions, with an awareness of evaluation to modify approaches based on evolving patient needs.
  • Your scope of practice will encompass physical and mental status assessments, de-escalation, and conflict-resolution.
  • Additionally, you will engage in discharge planning that promotes, maintains, and restores mental health, while preventing mental illness injury, and disability.
  • In this role, you will also be responsible for facilitating and delivering applicable group content to the patients.
  • Your communication skills will be instrumental in effectively engaging with other departments, services, and clients, ensuring the seamless provision of high-quality care.
