Requirements

  • Current practicing registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Successful completion of post-graduate Obstetrical course or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
  • Current Fetal Health Surveillance (FHS) or willingness to take.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or equivalent CPR.
  • Assessment and Intervention – Demonstrated ability to complete initial and ongoing patient assessments (clinical and diagnostic reasoning) and provide nursing care through appropriate/ prescribed technical, therapeutic, safety type interventions.
  • Communication – Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with patients, families, the public, medical staff and members of the interdisciplinary team using verbal, written and computer communication means.
  • Critical Thinking – Demonstrated ability to integrate and evaluate pertinent data (from multiple sources) to problem-solve effectively.
  • Human Caring and Relationship Centered Practice – Ability to promote patient-focused care that demonstrates care for and with patients and significant others, sensitive to diverse cultures and preferences, patient advocacy and social justice concerns.
  • Teaching – Ability to transmit information intended to instruct patients and others about topics essential to health care and well-being.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care required to assist patients in meeting their physical, social, and psychological needs.
  • Patient care assignments may include antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum care; neonatal care (Nursery); and Medical Surgical and/or Pediatric patients.
  • Care of assigned patients is guided by current BCCNM standards of Nursing Practice and Perinatal Services BC Guidelines and Standards.
  • Provide direct patient care as needed to meet the needs of the patients.
  • Ability to operate related equipment including relevant computer applications.
  • Physical, psychological and emotional ability to perform the duties of the position.
