Requirements

  • Candidate will be a diploma graduate of a recognized college or school of nursing or equivalent (i.e. certificate RPN with added course in medication administration, phlebotomy and health assessment)
  • Registered in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) or currently meet the eligibility criteria to register in good standing in the Temporary Class or General Class with the CNO
  • Current BCLS
  • Successfully completed the Coronary Care 1 course or committed to completing the course within the next six months
  • Minimum of 1-year acute care medicine/cardiac experience required
  • Telemetry experience preferred
  • A physical assessment course required
  • Recent experience with inpatient cardiology population preferred
  • Demonstrates knowledge, experience and the ability to care for patients with the following: initiation and maintenance of IV therapy, administration of medication above the drip chamber, blood and blood product administration, blood glucose monitoring, nasogastric tubes, wound management skills, routine and additional infection control precautions, normal and abnormal lab values
  • Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA) completion preferred
  • Previous experience in providing and delivering patients and families with educational teaching
  • Demonstrates excellence in communication skills and interprofessional team work
  • Demonstrates a strong ability to facilitate patient and family-centred care and establish therapeutic relationships
  • Evidence of on-going professional development
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge with EPIC and computer skills preferred
  • A positive work and attendance record is essential

Responsibilities

  • - Provide nursing care to patients in the 2C Cardiology unit.
  • - Support and coordinate care with interdisciplinary team members.
  • - Administer medications and treatments as per physician orders.
  • - Monitor and assess patients' conditions and report any changes.
  • - Initiate and maintain IV therapy as required.
  • - Educate patients and families about their health and treatment plans.
  • - Assist in maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment for patients.
  • - Document all aspects of patient care accurately and in a timely manner.
  • - Participate in quality improvement initiatives and ongoing professional development.
  • - Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes.
  • - Support off-service patients with telemetry needs.
