Requirements

  • Education:
  • Master's degree; PhD preferred in Engineering, transportation, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Software, Computers Science, Mathematics or related discipline
  • Experience:
  • Working experience in a related academic research environment
  • Solid skills in programming languages, preferably python and/or java
  • Experience in one or more of the following topics:
  • Course learning or project experience in transportation and traffic areas.
  • Temporal-spatial data analysis
  • Backend and frontend development with data feeds
  • Skills, Abilities & Expertise:
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of relevant scientific/research principles
  • Interests in transportation, public transit, and/or big data analyses
  • Ability to collaborate across internal and external boundaries to meet common objectives, improve outcomes and support work beyond one's own unit
  • Communication skills to describe technical concepts effectively to both novice and sophisticated users, and to complete detailed analytics and reports
  • Advanced skills in software and applications used to produce and analyze research outcomes
  • Ability to provide solutions and ideas for improvement by using imaginative approaches where constructive thinking and innovation are required
  • Detail-oriented with an ability to function and process information with high levels of accuracy- Familiarity with University research policies and practices

Responsibilities

  • The Research Associate will apply their expertise and knowledge to research projects, and carry out or oversee original and independent research under the general direction of a principle investigator. The incumbent may play a lead role in assisting in one or more of the following tasks in the the area of transportation with a focus on disruptive technologies including sensing data fusion, infrastructure analyses, and transportation system assessment. The incumbent will be responsible for research literature reviews, technical report and manuscript editing and formatting. The incumbent will analyze and process smartcard mobile application data with Python; visualize and integrates data that communicates clear information and conclusions; support and initiate the development of machine learning models. The incumbent will also be responsible for Backend re-infrastructure and programming (Python or Java).
