Central to a circular economy is the recycling and reuse of materials, while maintaining their highest possible value, for resource efficiency and waste minimization. Metals, particularly critical and platinum group ones, are crucial for the transition to a net zero, information based, economy. We aim to develop digitally enabled technologies for the separation and recycle of metals from waste based on continuous intensified processing and demonstrate their potential via a digital twin prototype for exemplar separations, co-identified with our partners. The post is funded by UKRI project SUMER and involves collaboration between experts on process design, modelling and intensified processing and with industrial partners Johnson Matthey and JIVA and local councils.</p><p></p>

<p></p><p>The Research Fellow will be implementing and solving differential-algebraic models within an optimization based process design framework for the design of flexible and dynamic processes. The eventual process designs will be used to implement a digital twin of a process for electronic waste. The Research Fellow will work together with other researchers involved in experiments and model identification.</p>
