Responsibilities

  • Support practice areas (M&A, Tax and DCM) within our Corporate & Finance Group with staffing of junior lawyers on their matters
  • Have an understanding of the nature of the work undertaken by one or more of the relevant practice areas and/or be willing to develop their knowledge of these practice areas as part of this role in order to understand what the team is doing, at a granular level, on a day to day basis. This foundational knowledge enables the Resource Manager to recommend junior lawyers to work on the partners’ matters based upon the lawyers’ level of experience and skills set as well as considering capacity within the team
  • Actively support the firm’s commitment to Diversity and Inclusion
  • By developing close and trusted relationships with our lawyers, the Resource Manager is able to support our lawyers development needs as well as supporting their wellbeing
  • Developing an excellent working and trusted relationship with our partners to gain an understanding of their practices, pressure points and resourcing needs and keeping this knowledge up-to date
  • Keeping partners abreast of capacity generally and attending the team and partner meetings, as necessary
  • Providing weekly utilisation and projected capacity reports to the partners as well as providing more regular updates to the Group Managers, other partners and lawyers as needed
  • Review utilisation and overall hours (ie including billable and non-billable time) stats on a daily and weekly basis flagging any areas of concern in real time to the Group Managers
  • Developing an excellent working relationship with associates to understand pressure points, capacity, skill sets and skill gaps and assisting with matching counsel/associate preferences (where possible) to work that becomes available
  • Understanding and mapping the skills in the team, including where there are /associates with outstanding experience needs as well as understanding their career aspirations
  • Proactively monitoring, reminding and chasing associates to close time (and following up in person where needed); including, for leavers, tracking o/s time sheets to ensure that all time is entered before they leave
  • Carry out monthly work allocation analysis to report on trends, provide recommendations to smooth utilisation or improve processes where needed and to flag any areas of concern to be addressed
  • Comparing /associates' forecasted utilisation against actual utilisation, on a weekly basis, and providing support to address consistent inconsistencies as needed
  • Being aware and keeping track of holidays and mapping holidays to utilisation in order to pro-actively recommend work re-allocation solutions (where needed) ahead of time
