Mission & Purpose

To really get to know the Cotton Traders story, you need to go back...way back! 16 years before we were established, to be precise, to a time before the company was even a sparkle in anyone’s eye! It all started on a college rugby pitch in 1970, when Fran Cotton & Steve Smith first met in Loughborough. 1980 saw the end of Fran & Steve’s illustrious rugby careers as they looked to the future. They joined Bukta sportswear, that was responsible for producing a lot of sport team’s kits around this era. It was here they honed and learnt the clothing trade. 1987 - In a small office in Altrincham, Cotton Traders was born! 1998 - Cotton Traders open its first retail store at Cheshire Oaks, we go on to open countless more nationwide! 2022 - Cotton Traders goes online and since then we haven't stopped growing,... Today, Cotton Traders is a renowned brand and multi channel retailer with an extremely loyal and dedicated customer base. With over 70 retail stores across garden centres, outlets and travel sites, millions of catalogues mailed to customers each year and a busy Contact Centre! We also have our head office based in Altrincham and our ever growing Distribution Centre in Nottingham. Wherever you work and whatever you do, we value and invest in our people and ensure that they have the opportunity to thrive at Cotton Traders. .

Culture & Values

  • Customer first

Our customers are at the heart of everything we do and every decision that we make. We have a dedicated and loyal customer base that always deserves the very best, and quality products that are built to last. Putting our customers first also means putting each other first – our internal customers, our colleagues. We always go the extra mile, with a positive attitude that drives customer-focused solutions.

  • Respect & Openness

We value honesty and transparency, and we’re proud that our open and optimistic culture ensures that all of our colleagues feel included and are involved in the business. Respect & openness reflects how we operate; we are polite, respectful and considerate, and we treat others how we wish to be treated. We live by the philosophy that no idea is a bad idea, valuing creative thinking, supporting each other and striving for each other’s success.

  • Strive for better

As a team, we are constantly evolving to make the business a better place to be, through being inquisitive, enthusiastic and challenging the status quo. By striving for better, we push the boundaries and ensure that we’re always searching for creative and innovative solutions, developing both as individuals and together as one team.

  • Quality

After over 30 years in the game, we champion world-class quality that always exceeds our customers’ expectations - from sourcing skin-kind fabrics to ensuring that our customers enjoy a positive shopping experience in-store and at home. We believe that trust changes everything, and that having trust in our brand and our team is essential to our success. Our people are empowered to succeed and take pride in their work; always anticipating any opportunities for improvement.

  • One team

Fuelled by our sense of team spirit, we are incredibly proud of our culture and our employee community. Whether it’s working on the day-to-day or wider projects, our colleagues collaborate together, learning from one another along the way. It is through this ‘One Team’ spirit that we can achieve what we set out to achieve, and so much more.
