Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field is required
  • Must have prior experience with sales tax compliance of at least 1 year
  • Proficiency in tax and/or accounting software, as well as knowledge of Microsoft Excel is required
  • Experience in conducting tax research is preferred
  • Clear written and verbal communication is essential for reporting and explaining tax strategies
  • A high level of attention to detail is necessary to avoid errors. Occasional travel is expected.

Responsibilities

  • Sales & Use Tax Compliance:
  • Prepare sales tax returns accurately, meeting tax deadlines.
  • Work with other tax team members to align on compliance and taxability.
  • File amended returns according to internal deadlines, follow-up with state and apply refunds when received.
  • Research credits making sure they are accurate and usable before applying to returns.
  • Analyze CIP projects for use tax and calculate use tax due or overpaid.
  • Tax Research & Analysis:
  • Research, understand and respond to sales tax notices meeting notice deadlines.
  • Assist with internal audit to ensure sales taxes are collected correctly from customers and that we have paid taxes correctly on company purchases.
  • Research, validate and process sales tax exemption certificates for customers.
  • Conduct taxability research to meet internal and external requests.
  • Collaboration & Training:
  • Ensure timely and accurate tax support to external and internal customers.
  • Build strong relationships with Sales and Operation teams.
  • Research and respond to tax emails within three days providing instruction on handing taxability issues.
  • Participate in regular training to improve technical knowledge.
  • Business License Compliance:
  • Assist with registrations within states for sales tax, property tax, and business licenses.
  • Assist with all compliance requirements for business filings and business licenses.
  • Assist in preparing nexus filings and maintain registrations file.
