Requirements

  • Experience with Java 13+ is a must.
  • Experience with cloud platform(s) (e.g. AWS, Azure, etc.).
  • Experience with both SQL/NoSQL databases.
  • Experience using Spring.
  • Experience scaling systems.
  • Experience working with multiple software development methodologies including Scrum and Kanban.
  • Experience with eCommerce and search systems would be a nice to have, but not vital.

Responsibilities

  • You are comfortable both supporting other engineers in their delivery and taking the lead on major components or small services as appropriate. You display a degree of ownership for the work conducted by the team and are experienced enough to know when you need support. You are able to identify risks and raise these as appropriate.
  • You are beginning to support, coach, and mentor those around you. As junior engineers join the team, you are assisting them through their onboarding process and leaning on your past experience to help get them up to speed. Whilst you may not formally be a mentor for other engineers, you are someone that individuals across the team will come to for advice and help. You prioritise sharing skills and technical knowledge across your team.
  • You contribute to the raising the quality of your team’s codebase, both in the code that you produce and by helping to peer review code written by other team members. You proactively provide constructive and useful feedback to team members on their code.
  • You have a good understanding of the standard methodologies of Tesco's architectural standards. You make sure to put these principles and standards into practice when completing your work. You are aware of the best testing and deployment strategies in the industry and have a view on the suitability of implementing these within your team.
  • You are comfortable working in a group context and you are capable of communicating technical concepts to key collaborators
