Responsibilities

  • Provide phlebotomy technical support to staff.
  • Serve as a preceptor for staff once port access training is completed by nursing.
  • Assure phlebotomy and indwelling policy and procedure manuals are current and uniform throughout all sections.
  • Communicate with Satellite Support staff of any changes to phlebotomy and indwelling policies and procedures.
  • Create and dispense new employee orientation and training material to supervisors.
  • Observe employees and assess their readiness for pediatric training.
  • Assist in writing procedures for Satellite Support.
  • Manage employee roles in Master Control, push out training courses as needed, update procedures, create new procedures, and serve as a resource for Master Control.
  • Communicate with manager, intermediate supervisors, and associate supervisors as necessary.
  • Communicate with inpatient and outpatient supervisors to coordinate training of staff.
  • Notify supervisors and staff of any phlebotomy procedural/equipment changes/updates.
  • Demonstrate a high level of professionalism in interactions with UMHS staff and patients.
  • Provide high quality phlebotomy training in adult, pediatric, capillary, and alternate venous access devices.
  • Manage and update phlebotomy procedures to ensure consistency with inpatient and outpatient procedures and CLSI guidelines.
  • Manage and develop the continuing education program for Satellite Support personnel, including annual plan listing quarterly programs/topics for staff.
  • Monitor staff MLearning plan and verify UMHS mandatory competencies and unit competencies are met, communicate with Allied Heath Technical Coordinators and Supervisors.
  • Support supervisors in completing staff annual phlebotomy competencies.
  • Maintain and update annual phlebotomy and indwelling competency program including new training materials.
  • Coordinate with supervisor's consistency of ordering and phlebotomy throughout Satellite Support to optimize and implement a LEAN environment.
  • Assist Manager in development or implementation of projects, as necessary.
  • Attend one professional development class every six months to develop training and project development skills.
  • Serve as Master Control expert.
