Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Civil Engineering with 3.0 cumulative GPA; EIT is preferred.
  • Must have a strong interest in the field of transportation engineering and a desire to learn and develop skills toward becoming a licensed Professional Engineer.
  • Previous transportation engineering experience (fulltime or internship) is desired.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and apply civil engineering fundamentals to academic or real-world projects
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to write design memos and work as part of a team to meet project deadlines and budgets
  • Previous experience or familiarity with one or more of the following software tools is required; ORD, MicroStation V8i, GEOPAK, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, HCS or Synchro. Proficiency with MS Office (Excel) is required.
  • Valid driver’s license with the ability to travel to project sites as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Performs design tasks for a variety of roadway improvement projects under the direction of Sr. Engineers.
  • Calculates quantities using Geopak and Excel and develops cost estimates in Bid Tabs and CES.
  • Performs design calculations consisting of Level 1 Checklist and Sight Distance.
  • Develops Maintenance of Traffic and culvert/storm sewer hydraulic design calculations.
  • Develops alignment/grade and drainage systems plans in Geopak and roadway plans in MicroStation.
  • Learns and applies INDOT Design Manual and AASHTO standards to complete tasks.
  • Assists with field data collection and construction inspection/documentation as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
