Welcome to the Goldsmiths Debating SocietyWe believe that debating is a fantastic opportunity for skills development, a brilliant way to engage in constructive discussion on topical issues and above all - a lot of fun!To become a member of our society, all you need to do is follow the steps detailed here: www.goldsmithsdebatingsociety.com/join-us. And the best part is, membership is completely free! Our weekly debating sessions are currently taking place on Thursdays, from 5-7pm. These are running online via Zoom and the link to each meeting will be emailed out to all registered members prior to the session start time. Society GoalsAs a society our general aims are threefold:To create an apolitical forum within the university for student-led discussion of ideas and topical issues of importance to our members. To offer members the opportunity to develop their confidence and communication skills through debate. To represent Goldsmiths within the wider university debating community and on the competitive debating circuit.Society ActivitiesDuring term-time we run a weekly workshop where we use debating as a vehicle for developing and practicing key transferable skills including public speaking, critical thinking, creative thinking, communication skills and, most importantly, self-confidence.Our workshops are open to all Goldsmiths students, regardless of debating ability or previous experience. We are committed to making the benefits of debating as accessible as possible, so we do not charge for membership, nor is there any kind of audition/try-out process to join.Throughout the year we also collaborate with other university debating societies and various partners to put on public events and showcase debates, which are open for everyone to attend and enjoy. {COVID-19 Update}In line with the social distancing policies currently in place at Goldsmiths, we will not be running any in-person workshops or events until such a time as it is safe to do so. Weekly sessions will continue to be held via online platforms in the meantime, details of which will be communicated to registered members via email. Additional updates will also be shared via our social media channels.Be sure to check us out via the following!Facebook: www.facebook.com/goldsmithsdebateInstagram: www.instagram.com/goldsmithsdebatingWebsite: www.goldsmithsdebatingsociety.com If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to email us at admin@goldsmithsdebatingsociety.com
