The Geriatrics and Elderly Medicine Society (GEMS) is a student-led society that holds numerous talks by guest speaker specialist consultants about issues facing elderly care and a career in the field, which are always accompanied by cake and refreshments!
Our regular debates and research opportunities provide further opportunities to delve into the field, while our mock OSCE stations and tutorials will run throughout the year to tackle tricky concepts in geriatrics medicine.
GEMS has also been home of the exciting Project Stars volunteering programme over recent years, where medical students previously mentored groups of sixth form students as they volunteer together in a local care home.
We are unfortunately unable to continue Project Stars this year due to COVID, and will therefore be running virtual fundraisers throughout the year to raise money for charities to do with elderly care. This will still give you the chance to keep giving back to the community, so sign up to our mailing list and get membership for more information!
If you are looking for a friendly group of students who want to make a change and learn more about issues facing elderly healthcare, then GEMS is perfect for you!
