Queen Mary, University Of London (QMUL)
navigation.about
Queen Mary Hockey Club is one of the largest mixed sports club at the university. There are three teams within the club: the men’s 1st team; women’s 1st team and mixed 1st team. These teams compete weekly at a high standard in the BUCS and LUSL leagues. In addition to competitive hockey, the club also provides opportunities for beginners and developing players to play. The club has grown rapidly over the past few years and success has followed on and off the pitch, with the now 4th year running of the mixed/development team providing a huge success for the club.It is also renowned for its fantastic socials and is one giant family. We are also hoping to increase club membership, whether playing, or social members, due to the retention of our current members and recruitment of lots of new members.Moving forward Queen Mary Hockey Club is increasingly helping the local community through charitable and voluntary work. This season will be a large, positive step forward, in charitable activities within the community. We as a club pride ourselves on our member’s satisfaction, and so the committee will continue to work to ensure that Queen Mary Hockey Club continues to provide the best student experience.Taster session The format of the first session will involve some basic skills followed by game play.Preferable to bring a stick, shin pads and gum shield.Selection for the first games will be made by the Captain throughout the first few weeks. If players are not selected for the 1st team, they have priority for the mixed/development team. We ensure everyone who commits to training has the opportunity to play competitive Hockey, whether that is for the 1st or mixed/development teams.TrainingMondays 19:00-20:30pm at Lee ValleyHockey and Tennis Centre.Equipment: Participants will need a hockey stick, a gum shield and shin pads if they have them. These are not essential to begin with but if the student decides to join as a playing member they will need to purchase the equipment. If they do not have a stick they will be able to borrow one.Commitment levels required: Attendance at all training sessions and matches will be compulsory, however captains will understand if for some reason you cannot make a match or training session. We also encourage attendance at our weekly socials as these are a good way to increase involvement within the club and to be able to mix with the other members of the club.
