Who are we?
Hi! We are the King’s College London St John Ambulance society, a group of students from all departments who have an interest in learning about life saving treatment and first aid. Every week, we run sessions about important skills which are vital in medical emergencies. As the KCL university branch of St John Ambulance, our members become qualified first aiders who really make a difference in the wider community. We welcome all skill levels, so whether you’re a first aid pro or just want to see what you can learn, come and have a go. DO you have to be a med student? NO!Important: If you join as a member don't forget to join our mailing list otherwise you'll miss out on our important announcements and training nights! How can you get involved?Due to COVID-19, you can now join us at our weekly training sessions at https://bit.ly/KCLxSJAMeetings, from 18:30 to 20:00 on Tuesdays! You can find all our other important links here: https://linktr.ee/KCLxSJA.We are currently assessing the viability of a return to in-person training from September 2021. We will continue having online meetings until a safe return can be guaranteed. Our membership fee is £5 for the year, this includes the cost of going on any SJA training courses and your DBS check. For this small amount, you could be the difference between a life lost and a life saved. You will be provided with uniform and equipment as well!
What do we do?
As previously mentioned, we run training that teaches our members how to respond in emergencies. We cover important areas such as CPR, allergic reactions, seizures and many more.
As a member of the society, you can apply to join the free training course run by St John Ambulance to become a qualified First Aider. After this, you can go out on duties at football games, music events and even the London Marathon. Last year, members of our society went to support at the Berlin Marathon.
There are also many chances to socialise, with socials happening after weekly training sessions such as pizza nights and Mario Kart tournaments. You also can go to the Winter Ball, a highlight of the society’s calendar. Not only do we aim to improve first aid knowledge, we want our members to grow and develop their interpersonal skills too!
