navigation.about
Barts and The London Mixed LacrosseBL Lacrosse is a friendly and welcoming environment for everyone at university. Since Lacrosse isn’t a common sport at sixth form, we don’t expect any level of prior experience and pride ourselves on teaching anyone the wonderful sport that is Lacrosse! We only ask that each member throws themselves into the BL Lacrosse community, has fun, and enjoys themselves. We also have a great selection of socials, catering to everyone – You can join us for our weekly tables session at The Griff, or if that’s not your thing maybe join us for one of our games nights! The social calendar has been adjusted slightly due to the COVID situation, but there should always be something on to encourage everyone to relax and get to know their teammates, for drinkers and non-drinkers alike. Taster SessionOur FREE taster session will be run in September, but will be a bit different this year – make sure to follow our Instagram page to keep up with updates. This session will just be an introduction to lacrosse for people who have never played (or even heard of) the sport before. There is no selection process to join the team and it’s just a bit of fun to get to know each other and the sport. You should turn up in sports attire (and bring a gumshield or lacrosse stick if you have either of those too).TrainingOur training runs on Tuesdays, with weekly fitness sessions organised for Sundays. We cater our training to both new players learning basic skills, such as ball control, passing and shooting - as well as to experienced players learning about more advanced techniques and match tactics, allowing everyone to develop at their own pace. You do not need to have any special equipment, beyond a gum shield. Sticks and balls will be provided, but do bring your own if you have one!We ask that you are at least committed to the Tuesdays training session and play in as many matches as you can throughout the year – It’s great fun and a really good way to see yourself develop. (dates for these will be released on the groupchat as we know them).CompetitionsBL Lacrosse competes in the LUSL League, which means our matches usually take place around midday on Sundays. Our home field is Chislehurst Playing Field, with each university having a different home ground. We will coordinate travel to games, but sometimes this will involve using public transport.Personal FitnessAs our club grows it becomes more important for us to offer personal fitness options. Our main offering is the weekly fitness sessions done at a nearby park to keep team fitness up for matches, allowing us to focus more on technical aspects at training. We also have contingencies for any lockdowns occurring again in first term for online training sessions. The QMSU also offers a gym on the Mile End campus, QMotion, as well as a sister-gym in Charterhouse Square, Fitness to Practice, both with competitive student membership rates. This membership is different from the Lacrosse yearly subs but is ideal if you want an on-campus gym. How to get involved1. Join our Facebook group, and follow our Instagram page (links at the bottom of this page).2. Attend our FREE taster session to get an idea of the sport.3. Purchase your subs – this can be done at the Hub (Mile End), BLSA reception (Whitechapel) or online. Lacrosse is one of the most affordable sports at QM/BL, at only £30 per year!4. Enjoy!
