navigation.about
IC Sinfonietta is a full symphony orchestra, led by professional conductor William Carslake.
We play a wide variety of enjoyable and challenging repertoire to a high standard. Recent Sinfonietta concerts include Shostakovich's 10th Symphony and Rachmaninov's 2nd, as well as virtual arrangements of the Tchaikovsky's 1812 overture and an outdoor performance of Rimsky-Korsakov's 2nd. Rehearsals are every Monday at 18:15, followed by a trip to the pub. We have a highly deserved reputation as being a very sociable orchestra, with socials organised throughout the year, as well as a weekend away in first term!
Our fun-loving nature does not detract from our playing, however, and we put on three fantastic performances a year, often with distinguished soloists from Imperial and further afield. We are also one of the most travelled musical societies, touring annually to locations such as Valencia, Croatia, Prague, and most recently Rome!
Despite COVID restrictions preventing normal rehearsals, we've done a mixture of online masterclasses and sectionals, socially distanced rehearsals, virtual and outdoor concerts.
Sinfo will be a place to get together and make music regardless of restrictions.
We are always on the lookout for new players, and no audition is required for strings or percussion, so if you'd like to be part of one of the most enjoyable and rewarding societies at Imperial, come and find us at Freshers' Fair and join the Sinfo family!
