navigation.about
The main purpose of the TEDx Appreciation Society is to create an intellectually stimulating environment to initiate discussions on various topics of global importance in order to set new ways of thinking into motion. The society seeks to integrate TED’s mission of sharing “ideas worth spreading” into the UCL community to provide a platform for students to speak about topics they are passionate about and inspire others. We enable students to engage in a wide spectrum of activities to improve their public speaking skills, boost their confidence and most importantly - have a unique wide-reaching platform to express themselves. They will have the opportunity to engage in face-to-face discussions with experts, young professionals and individuals that aspire to make a difference in their local communities, as well as on a global scale. In addition, we aim to host an annual TEDxUCL conference to stimulate abstract and innovative thinking on a wider scale. We strongly believe that every single one of us should, on the one hand have the opportunity to make their voice heard and on the other hand, be encouraged to challenge their preconceived ideas. This is the only way we can make a difference to the way we see our world. With this in mind, we want to inspire students from all backgrounds – ethnic, cultural, religious, financial and others – to engage in our activities.Come along to any of our sessions, drop us an e-mail at [email protected] or Facebook message us to find out more! TEDx Appreciation Society is also a proud alliance society of the Bentham Brooks Institute, a student-led think tank encompassing a bespoke research program to produce peer-reviewed, high quality research policy papers to inform policy-makers and influential bodies. Formed with an alliance with 4 of the largest international affairs societies at UCL, BBI will benefit from vast resources of these societies, a decorated board of advisors and a robust organisational framework of BBI to scrutinise and find solutions to the problems facing the world today.
