UN Women UK Kent is part of the UN Women UK’s Student Champion Network that is working in partnership to raise awareness about gender equality and make a positive change for women and girls through empowering women, providing equal opportunities and tackling violence. UN Women UK Kent hopes to advance these aims and promote this message across the university and the wider society through involving students in fundraising for UNWomen and educating people on the issues affecting women worldwide.
We are an active society, organising a series of events during term time and through these events, we hope to raise awareness about the importance of gender equality, in our university and elsewhere, to inspire our students to take action and challenge the status quo. We aim to create a network of young leaders, committed to making change happen - both on campus and across our communities. This group is fully inclusive and open to all who want to join a group that is non-competitive and acting in meaningful ways. We want to create an environment to share events, ideas and stories as peers, create a community ourselves, and a safe space in wich people feel free to self-express.
UN Women is the global UN agency dedicated to advancing gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls. Founded in 2010, UN Women works at every level from policy and legislation to delivering grassroots programmes, to protect and promote the rights of women across the world.
Young people are today's activists and tomorrow's leaders. Let’s build this movement together.
Our 3 main objectives are:
1. Awareness - To raise awareness about gender inequality in the UK and across the world, and to promote solutions that UN Women, with its partners, are delivering.
2. Advocacy - To speak out for women's empowerment and UN Women's work both on campus, and in the local community.
3. Activation - To engage more students on campus and beyond to take bold, decisive action for gender equality.
