UoN ABACUS

At UoN ABACUS, we aim to promote and celebrate like-minded individuals who are immersed in more than one culture. Founded in 1994, at the University of Cambridge, ABACUS still holds the same traditions today: a space where British customs and values fuse with Chinese culture. The society has become increasingly popular, spreading across UK universities because of its diverse group of people in a relaxed and comfortable setting. ABACUS members are very international and diverse in their background. Students from all over the world are welcome; from China, Hong Kong, UK, Thailand, Korea, as well as students without Asian heritage, are encouraged to explore and get involved in our community. This is because at ABACUS, we have the unique opportunity to celebrate and appreciate both the amazing parts of western and eastern cultures. This forms a unique and enjoyable environment created by you guys, its members. Throughout the year in Nottingham, we frequently hold socials, ranging from weekly sport sessions at Jubilee or David Ross Sports centre, celebrating Chinese festivals, attending the famous Nottingham Goose Fair, enjoying Nottingham’s finest Chinese cuisine, nights out at the popular Coco Tang, as well as games and movies nights! If you are interested in celebrating both Chinese and British culture in one comfortable space, then ABACUS is the right society for you!
