  • The Oklahoman is hiring three full-time interns for its 10-week summer program. We seek candidates who are looking for professional-level experience, who are enthused about reporting and writing compelling stories about communities across Oklahoma and who want to work in an often fast-paced newsroom environment. The program includes one-on-one coaching and mentoring, but interns are expected to handle stories independently and effectively in a deadline-driven news environment. Interns also might be required to team up with other reporters on an assignment. This role may include evening and weekend hours, depending on the newsroom’s needs and the intern's schedule.

  • Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Must be currently enrolled in a college or university journalism program or a recent graduate.
  • Experience at a college newspaper or previous internship preferred.
  • This role requires a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and the minimum liability insurance required by state law.
  • Employment is contingent on passing a post-offer, pre-employment background check, drug screen and motor vehicle record check.

  • Must demonstrate strong communication and reporting skills.
  • Handle reporting assignments that may include breaking news, trending topics, enterprise and investigative reporting, social media, audio/video recordings, copy editing, database and research work.
  • Proficiency in use of AP style.
  • Quickly and accurately report information for digital and print production.
  • If needed, assist in the production of photos and graphics to support stories.
  • Expected to participate in brainstorming and story-pitch sessions.
  • Ability to multi-task under deadline pressure.
