What is the duration of the University Hospitals Nurse Intern Program?
The internship is a 10-week, temporary, paid summer position.
Who is eligible to apply for the Nurse Intern Program?
The program is open to nursing students enrolled at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland State University, Hiram College, Kent State University (and Kent regional campuses), University of Mount Union, University of Akron, John Carroll, and Ursuline College.
What are the academic requirements to apply for the internship?
Applicants must be entering or currently in their final year of an accredited BSN or ADN Nursing program, with a graduation date between December 2025 and May 2026, and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater.
Is there a specific certification required for the Nurse Intern position?
Yes, BLS certification, issued by the American Heart Association, must be obtained during the UH Orientation.
What types of skills will the Nurse Intern develop during the program?
The Nursing Intern will improve communication, critical thinking, clinical, and time management skills while increasing self-confidence and clinical competence.
Are applicants required to complete a specific application form?
Yes, applicants must complete and submit the 2025 RN Internship Application form, which must be uploaded into their Career Profile or emailed to UHNurseIntern@UHHospitals.org.
Will Nurse Interns work independently?
No, Nurse Interns function within the registered nurse's scope of practice under the direct supervision of an RN preceptor.
What type of patient care responsibilities do Nurse Interns have?
Nurse Interns provide patient care for individuals and their families, assisting them in attaining, maintaining, and restoring optimal health, while collaborating with their clinical preceptor.
What is the goal of the Nurse Intern Program?
The goal is to assist Nursing Interns in developing professional skills and confidence in a supportive learning environment.
