What qualifications are required for the Academic Technology Intern position?
Candidates must be currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Industrial Technology, or a related field, have an interest in information technology or information systems, enjoy some physical labor, be organized, and must be enrolled at Sul Ross State University in good standing.
Are there any preferred skills or experiences for this internship?
Yes, preferred skills include strong problem-solving abilities, the ability to work independently, basic analytical and computer skills, effective oral and written communication skills, and a desire to learn about standards and best practices in information technology.
Who will be supervising the intern?
The intern will have direct supervision from the Director of Academic Technology, Dominick Percoco, who will also act as the staff mentor within the Title III STEM Internship Program.
What will the intern's primary responsibilities entail?
The intern will support computer and audio-visual technologies in university learning spaces, maintain hardware, software, and peripheral equipment, install and support desktop computers and multimedia systems, develop training and troubleshooting documentation, and assist in inventory management.
Is there any professional development provided during the internship?
Yes, the internship includes access to professional development tools, such as resume building and interview practices, as well as opportunities to learn about the STEM workforce and career pathways.
What is the Title III STEM Internship Program?
The Title III STEM Internship Program is a program that offers students knowledge, experience, and professional connections in the STEM field, including the requirement to present at the SRSU Student Symposium.
Is the role physically demanding?
Yes, the intern must enjoy some physical labor as part of the responsibilities, which may include working on a ladder.
