Requirements

  • Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associate’s degree in a related field or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required. Two years of related experience, ability to use logic and reasoning to prioritize tasks, expertise using MS Office software, and demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills also required. Database experience preferred. Bachelor’s degree in a related field may be preferred.
  • Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
  • Preferences:
  • Meaningful progress toward a degree in business, statistics, information systems or a related field. Talent for detail-oriented analysis as well as an ability to think critically, abstractly, and theoretically. Experience and/or interest in the following: geospatial analytics and visualizations, data mining, big data, machine learning, and healthcare strategy. Applicants not holding additional University of Utah jobs during the summer semester will be preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Completion of data projects related to the work of Health Sciences Strategy. The following is representative of work performed by analytics interns but is not all-inclusive:
  • Compile and clean data from disparate sources (database, APIs, web scraping, flat files) to aid Strategy team members with their projects and engagements.
  • Assist in optimizing and automating data pipelines and creating new pipelines.
  • Create automated processes to audit data quality and discover anomalies within the data
  • Utilize GIT repository to store production code
  • Undertake other responsibilities as needed to support development and implementation of health system strategy.
  • Problem Solving:
  • Incumbents in this position are expected to be familiar with the department’s policies and procedures and have working knowledge of University and department organizations and procedures in order to answer and assist staff and visitors. Incumbents are also expected to demonstrate sensitivity to others’ needs while being understanding and helpful on the job.
