Requirements

  • Eligibility:
  • To be eligible for the Student Intern Program at SRP, the employee must be actively enrolled in a minimum of six (6) credit hours that are college level (100) or above over the course of a regular semester and must be working towards a degree from an accredited college or university.
  • For an accelerated program, the student must be enrolled in six credit hours in the equivalent of a traditional semester.
  • Pay rate is $18.75 per hour for an undergraduate intern and $20.80 per hour for a graduate intern.
  • Experience:
  • Preferred experience in data science, power systems analysis, data analysis, engineering, grid operations or forecasting techniques
  • Familiarity with computer programming (VBA, SQL, Python, C++, R, Matlab, etc.)
  • Meteorology and renewable generation experience is a plus
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Curiosity and self-motivation to perform research
  • Education:
  • College level coursework (100+) from an accredited institution will be evaluated on an individual basis according to the skill/level to determine if applicable to the position by management.

Responsibilities

  • Develop performance metrics and tracking of SRP’s existing solar forecasting tools.
  • Benchmark, track, improve, and communicate the performance of the solar forecasting models and collaborate with IT to maintain the infrastructure, including both internal and external data pipelines.
  • Assist with the integration of new solar forecasting tools and the utilization of data from sky cameras.
  • Analyze the outputs of optimization models for the power system.
  • Support the creation of a data repository and provide visual analytics.
  • Support the tool development for outage and de-rate detection for solar units.
  • Create training models for new types of generation resources.
  • Support innovative projects for the decarbonization transformation.
  • This summer internship may be extended based on work availability.
