What is the primary focus of the intern position in Cell-Based Assay Development?
The primary focus of the intern position is to support the development of disease-relevant in vitro assays targeting key indications related to the health and function of the peripheral nervous system, specifically through the cultivation of cells and optimization of paradigms to model autoimmune disease states.
Is previous cell culture experience required for this internship?
Yes, previous cell culture experience is a must for this internship. Experience with iPSCs, Schwann cells, and/or neurons is considered a plus.
What educational qualifications are required for this position?
Candidates must be Master’s or PhD students with a minimum GPA of 3.0 in a relevant area of study, such as Biology, Biochemistry, Neuroscience, or related fields.
Where will the internship take place?
The internship is lab-based and will take place at the Research Triangle Park office in North Carolina, five days per week.
Will the intern have opportunities for data analysis and presentations?
Yes, the intern will participate in experimental design and execution, analyze data, and prepare reports. At the end of the internship, they will give an inter-departmental presentation of their work and findings.
Are there specific laboratory skills necessary for this internship?
Yes, candidates should have basic lab skills, such as reagent preparation and laboratory safety awareness, along with advanced lab skills including previous cell culture experience and proficiency with imaging platforms and plate readers.
What kind of techniques will the intern be using during the internship?
The intern will employ immunochemical, imaging, and biochemical techniques to assess multiple endpoints related to cell health and function.
Are there any specific software skills required for this position?
Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required, along with abilities in literature searches, record keeping, data analysis, and presentation.
