Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in a degree program at an accredited college/university rising undergraduate juniors or seniors, graduate students, or post-doctoral students and remain academically enrolled throughout the internship or must have previously graduated from college and enrolled in a continuing education program
  • In-depth knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite programs—especially InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator—is required; knowing After Effects is a plus
  • Familiarity with CPS/Censhare is a plus but not required (we will train)
  • Knowledge of multiple social media platforms is a plus
  • Must be a self-starter, able to multitask and work within tight deadlines
  • Must enjoy collaborating and working as part of a team
  • Must have excellent communication skills and be comfortable communicating with outside vendors (Illustrators, photographers, etc.)
  • The schedule is flexible; the Design Team works remotely on Mondays and Fridays and in the office on Tuesdays and Wednesdays; Thursdays are often a telework day. Must be in person for at least one day a week

Responsibilities

  • The Editorial Design Intern will assist our busy department with a variety of tasks including, but not limited to:
  • Help to design and develop print and digital layouts for AARP The Magazine and the AARP Bulletin
  • Assist with creating and assigning illustrations for all platforms (print, social media, website, and the magazine’s app)
  • Attach text to CPS (AARP’s Content Publishing System) layouts; training provided.
  • Heavily involved in creating social media assets and digital ads
  • Enter artist contracts into our database
  • Upload imagery to the digital asset management system
