  • The Meta Reality Labs Battery team is looking for a Thermal Modeling Intern. In this role, you will develop a cell-level thermal model to dynamically simulate heat generation and heat flow within the battery. You will apply your knowledge, experience and expertise to solve complex engineering and technological challenges.


  • Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a PhD in Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, or related field
  • Experience with thermal modeling of Li-ion cells using commercial modeling tools such as FLOEFD, ANSYS, COMSOL, MATLAB or equivalent
  • Knowledge of Li-ion technology, electrochemistry, and battery testing
  • Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with physics-based models of electrochemical systems
  • Familiarity with cell/battery testing equipment (Maccor, Arbin, Neware, BioLogic, or equivalent)
  • Intent to return to a degree-program after the completion of the internship/co-op
  • Interpersonal experience: cross-group and cross-culture collaboration

  • Collaborate with Cell and Battery Engineers to develop functional cell-level thermal models to simulate heat generation and heat flow under charge/discharge conditions.
  • Apply the model to investigate real-world scenarios
  • Oversee cell component and materials analysis to obtain necessary model parameters
  • Conduct lab tests and data analysis to validate the model
  • Explore integration of cell-level with pack and device level thermal models
