Requirements

  • Currently has or is in the process of obtaining a Ph.D. degree in Optical Science, Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Optical Physics, Computational Imaging, Applied Physics, or relevant technical field.
  • Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.
  • 2+ years experience in at least one of the following areas of optical research: computational optics, photonic device, or microLED.
  • 2+ years experience in wave optics, polarization optics, or geometrical optics, emphasizing modeling and simulation.
  • 2+ years hands on experience with one of the following optical simulation algorithms: RCWA, FDTD, FEM, adjoint method, or similar.
  • 2+ years experience with scientific programming languages such as Matlab, Python or similar.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Intent to return to degree program after the completion of the internship/co-op.
  • Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, as well as first-authored publications at leading workshops or conferences or in high-impact journals such as those published by SPIE, OPTICA, IEEE, ACES, or similar.
  • Experience working and communicating cross functionally in a team environment.
  • Some experience with computational optimization algorithms such as Bayesian optimization, stochastic global optimisation methods, evolutionary algorithms, and local search techniques e.g., gradient descent etc.
  • Some experience with optical design programs or raytracing tools such as Zemax OpticStudio, Code V, LightTools, FRED, or similar.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with an optical modeling team to investigate optical performance of microLEDs.
  • Explore the application of at least one of the following: wave optics, polarization optics, geometrical optics.
  • Simulate the propagation of light through nano-photonic devices and components.
  • This position will have an emphasis of advanced modeling and simulations to prove new concepts in optics design.
  • Compare and use measurement results to feedback into the optics design workstream.
  • Collaborate with researchers and cross-functional partners including communicating research plans, progress, and results.
  • Present and discuss results in cross functional forums.
  • Publish research results and contribute to research that can be applied to microLED development.
