Requirements

  • Pursuing a degree in history, education, or related field of study in museum studies or the humanities.
  • Have an interest in education and museums.
  • Must conduct oneself in a mature/professional manner and be able to work accurately and efficiently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs., and use step ladders.
  • Applicants for positions in this class must be currently enrolled students in a degree program at an accredited educational institution, as determined by the Iowa Department of Administrative Services – Human Resources Enterprise.

Responsibilities

  • Compiling exhibit text to be used for the language audit, exhibit text online, and braille transcriptions
  • Website accessibility - updating broken links and spelling errors
  • Partnering with Iowa Dept. for the Blind to use their clear braille printer to add braille to our elevators and vending machines
  • Audio description tour scripts and recording
  • Front desk staff support: etiquette sheets, welcoming language examples, professional development resources
  • Accessible presentation guide for SHSI speakers
  • Move forward Lauren's work to support autistic visitors via sensory tool kits and social narratives; building a quiet space in the museum
  • Exhibit Content Research
