What is the primary responsibility of a Trainee Nurse Hysteroscopist?
The primary responsibility is to assess care needs for a small caseload of clients, develop and implement care programs, and maintain high standards of care while in training under supervision.
What kind of training is required for this position?
Trainees are required to attend and complete a postgraduate certificate in diagnostic hysteroscopy and therapeutic management course, as well as participate in a BSGE accredited hysteroscopy course.
Will I have a mentor during my training?
Yes, you will have a mentor to support your training, skill development, and provide guidance throughout your learning pathway.
Is there a need for effective communication skills in this role?
Yes, strong communication skills are essential to overcome complex communication issues and ensure that patient needs are met while working with the multidisciplinary team.
What type of care will I be involved in assessing?
You will assess a range of care needs, including both simple and complex clinical problems, for patients whose situations may be predictable, unpredictable, unstable, or changing.
Will I have leadership responsibilities?
Yes, you will have responsibilities related to lead, supervise, and provide training to new registered and non-registered staff, as well as act as a team leader when appropriate.
What is expected in terms of quality improvement and research?
You are expected to contribute to audits of hysteroscopy services, demonstrate research awareness, participate in clinical trials, and propose changes based on evidence-based practices.

You can report and investigate incidents related to your role using the DATIX reporting system when delegated to do so.
What happens after I complete my training?
Upon completion of your training, the job description will be reviewed and adapted to reflect your new role as an independent nurse hysteroscopist.

Yes, you are expected to contribute to the audit of hysteroscopy services and develop knowledge in quality initiatives within the field.
Will I be involved in inducting new staff?
Yes, you will participate in devising induction programs for newly appointed staff and may assist in monitoring their performance.
