Responsibilities

  • Working to deliver the priorities of the Ministerial team.
  • Leading work to develop specific proposals on criminal court policy, including but not limited to, options for long-term reform.
  • Responding to and implementing recommendations from the Independent Review of the Criminal Courts.
  • Building effective relationships with high profile stakeholders and officials from across the Criminal Justice System, such as other Government departments, policing colleagues, the Judiciary, AGO, CPS and HMCTS.
  • Line management and leadership of a team, including contributing to the wider leadership of the Unit.
  • Development of legislation, including primary, as needed to implement recommendations from the Independent Review of the Criminal Courts.
  • If relevant, working closely with operational colleagues, lawyers, and analysts to ensure legislative documents and briefings are delivered on time, including appropriate Parliamentary handling plans.
  • Producing and delivering high-quality written and oral briefings to senior officials and ministers as required.
