Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Child Development, Child Life, or a closely related field with a concentration in child life.
  • 600-hour Child Life internship under the supervision of a certified child life specialist.
  • General skills to resolve problems requiring the use of child development theory, professional child life principles, and experienced‑based knowledge.
  • Well-developed writing skills, and excellent communication skills including conflict resolution to effectively work as a team member.
  • Child Life Certification required within 1 year of hire

Responsibilities

  • Participating in therapeutic activities and programs to meet patients’ psychosocial and developmental needs, and facilitating adjustment to health care experiences for patients on our behavioral health cohort.
  • Serving as member of multidisciplinary team.
  • Delegating work assignments to volunteers and participates in clinical training of student interns.
  • Working 40 hours per week: four 10 hour days per week, with one weekend shift required per month.

Boston Children's Hospital is a 404-bed comprehensive center for pediatric health care. As one of the largest pediatric medical centers in the United States, Boston Children's offers a complete range of health care services for children from birth through 21 years of age. (Our services can begin interventions at 15 weeks gestation and in some situations we also treat adults.)
