Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Engineering or Construction technology or working towards AS similar qualification.
  • Basic ability to utilize both 2D and 3D applications to prepare engineering drawings.
  • Basic knowledge in the theory and practices of assigned discipline; competent in the fundamental concepts of other disciplines as they relate to the assigned discipline; and capable of operating related discipline design software necessary to execute production tasks.
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
  • Desirable (But not essential):
  • Basic understanding of design software such as: AutoCAD, Revit, and Excel to develop the design deliverables. Ability to learn and effectively utilize new design software programs.
  • Understanding of Navisworks and Dynamo.
  • Basic knowledge of BIM 360 and Autodesk Construction Cloud.
  • Basic knowledge of BS1192 & ISO19650 relevant standards and guidance associated with delivering in a BIM level 2 environment.
  • Basic knowledge of BIM Standards and industry guidance in relation to electronic output

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design process on a number of live projects, which includes creating electrical schematics, grid plan layouts, electrical schematics, lighting system layout, protection and controls, and site and facility design. Ensuring that you follow all company, client and project design and drafting standards.
  • Assist and input to various calculations required for substation design such as busbar short circuit calculations, cable sizing calculations, voltage drop calculations, DC battery sizing calculations, LVAC cable sizing calculation etc
  • Assisting in the design of protection philosophy documents such as key line diagrams and single line diagrams
  • Assist with set up of electrical CAD/BIM configuration and procedures according to project requirements at the beginning of a project for the electrical design team.
  • Assist in preparing engineering drawings from rough sketches or from general engineering and design information (verbal instructions and notes) using CAD/BIM (Building Information Management) software programs.
  • Assist with a full range of drawing production work including detailed design layouts / earthing layouts and performing calculations on non-routine assignments of substantial variety and complexity and implementing feedback from Engineers.
  • Assist with the execution of a variety of electrical design assignments using prescribed methods and standard techniques including drawing sequence and presentation, sizing various system components such as LVAC / multicore cables.
  • Maintain an overview of developments in CAD/BIM technologies, relevant BIM standards and Codes of Practice.
  • Assist with the execution of changes to designs or sketches and mark-ups on ongoing projects and assist in assessing the implication of those changes on timescales and project cost.
  • Working collaboratively with others including, but not limited to Project Managers, BIM Managers, Engineers, and Designers throughout the company in a multi-discipline project team environment to resolve design or drawing issues as appropriate and to accomplish objectives using BIM models.
  • Assist with the analysis of reports, drawings, and tests to plan and design projects.
  • Apply design codes and specifications related to design requirements.
  • Review design drawings for quality assurance within scope, budget, and schedule. Perform project tasks and assignments within budgeted hours and deadlines.
  • Organize and maintain all revisions of project drawings, plot files and project-related information are stored in a logical and well-structural manner.
  • All other duties as assigned.
  • Work under the guidance of senior engineers on a range of HV substation engineering topics, such as high voltage underground cable design, high level electrical busbar arrangements and subsequent calculations, protection and control systems and above & below ground earthing arrangements etc…
  • Assist is maintaining compliance to CDM regulations, and all other legal and regulatory requirements associated with electrical system design.
  • Demonstrate creativity, foresight, and judgement in anticipating and solving problems.
